The St Chad Gospels: The Cathedral holds a treasure older than the Book of Kells. The St Chad Gospels date back to approximately 730 AD and are still used in services today.

Evolution’s “Steering” Roots: Long before cars, local resident Erasmus Darwin invented a “horizontal windmill” and a steering mechanism for carriages that is still the basis of modern car steering systems.

The name Lichfield is often said to mean “Field of the Dead”, originating from a legend that a thousand Christian martyrs were killed here by Roman soldiers in 300 AD.
